Teach Me Your Ways

Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness. Revive me, O LORD, for Your name's sake! For Your righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble. Psalms 143:10-11

We are living in times, when you can't tell anymore, what is true and what is fabrication. Secular thinking and philosophy has masqueraded itself to appear as religious truth, when in fact, there is no biblical truth behind it at all. It runs so parallel to the truth that it is hard to distinguish it, if you don't know what true biblical teachings are then it is almost impossible to know the difference.

Most people today, have never once read the bible from cover to cover, they have never read more than a dozen chapters, if that, in their life times. They have heard bits and pieces of scripture here and there, and with that they formed their worldly belief structures and closed their minds to any other input whatsoever.

The scripture above reflects the thought that we must be taught to do what is right, it doesn't come naturally to us because we are because we are by nature children of wrath as the scripture says.

In which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. Eph. 2: 2-3

The true course of this world is to live alienated from God, through disobedience and rebellion, unwilling to follow His laws and ordinances, because they conflict with what we want to do in our hearts. If we did follow what He requires of us, we would be at peace with ourselves and those who live around us. We are rebellious by nature, we are stubborn and we don't like people telling us what to do. That is who we are, and that is why we get ourselves so messed up most of the time.

This scripture says that our main goal in our life is just to fulfill the lust of our flesh and the desires of our minds. We want, we see and we got to have, and some of us don't care how we get it, just as long as we gratify the cravings that we have whatever we have set our affections on.

We are selfish and want to take what we can get, when there is an opportunity to get it.

We are all these things by nature because we are never satisfied with what we have, and if someone else has what we want, we will move mountains just to have it too. We are by nature ungrateful and unfulfilled, because we have a hole built into our mainframes that cannot be filled by anything we can fill it with.

So that also makes us have addictive personalities that make us self-destructive on top of all the other problems that we live with day to day.

We have to be taught to do what is right.
We also have to be revived.

We are like people in hospitals who have major episodes that need to be revived sometimes in order to live. Sometimes our condition is so grave that we have to have a shock to the heart, or an injection that gets our bodies operating at a normal rate. If we don't have that intervention, some of us will not make it and possibly die.

We consist of body, soul and spirit, and if one of these area's are undernourished, we can face a major crisis in our lives. You cannot separate yourself from any one of these, they are all part of your make up. If you don't take care of your body by starving it, then you will suffer what comes with starving it. You will become skinny, underweight, possibly stunted in growth, horribly boney and worst of all, you could die. Your body needs food and water just to live, and if it is deprived, then the results could be extremely unpleasant.

Your soul is your brain functions, thought processes such as personality, skills, abilities and your interactions with your environment around you. If you are the type of person that is always causing drama around you, then people will let you know that they don't appreciate it by getting back in your face or staying away from you. So if you are that way, then you are dysfunctional in the soul part of your make up.

Your spirit is that part of you that has to be filled with meaning and purpose in life. It is the part of you that has to communicate with your Creator by nature, and without that communication you become starved and unfulfilled. The word of God is the food that your spirit needs for growth. Just like your body, if you don't nourish your spirit, it will be stunted in growth and mentally challenged.

We have to be taught to do right.
We have to be revived.
We have to have a firm foundation.

If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do? Psalms 11:3

We have to have a firm foundation, solid and unshaken by the events that happen around us. Our lives are like a huge building, they have to be built to withstand shaking, fire, ice, blowing wind and flooding. If a building is under code, then it is more susceptible to accidents and destruction.

A good example of this is when terrorist drove a van loaded with explosives into the parking structure of one of the twin towers and detonated it. It shook the building on it's foundation, scared a lot of people and made a lot of smoke, but when it was said and done, it stood up to the attack with very minor damage.

Right after that, they inspected both towers and found that they were below code in a lot of other area's that would have been overlooked for many more years if that attack had not taken place. They found that there were no sprinkler systems to put out any fires that could have happened, bare beams were exposed where the fire retardant spray covering them had fallen off, and there were not enough fire exits if a major fire broke out.

Then came September 11, 2001, we all saw in astonishment, an event that took place that we would have never dreamed could happen in this country and one we will never forget. Two passenger planes hit each tower and caused a massive fire on thirteen floors of each structure that burned for hours. It heated up the steel girders so hot that they finally gave way and both structures fell flat on the ground and about 2,300 people were killed.

The tower survived a massive blast because it had a firm foundation, yet, because of the area's that were not up to standard in the rest of the tower , both fell flat to the streets. No one ever thought that anyone would use a plane as a bomb, but they did.

If we have a firm foundation, we will stand, but if our lives are below our own standards, then we will fall and we will have trouble trying to get back up. If we claim to be Christians and are living for ourselves instead of God then we will have trouble turning back to God because Satan will let his hordes completely destroy you if you let him. The saddest thing to see is someone who used to walk with God being destroyed slowly without them even knowing what is happening to them.
For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away,[
] to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. Heb. 6:4-6

If we turn our backs on God, we place ourselves in danger of being totally deceived by Satan, to the point to where it could be impossible for us to return to God. The farther from God you get, the harder your heart becomes, the harder your heart becomes, more you have trouble with accepting instruction and the more you are in denial.

But worst of all, when you talk, you just sound foolish and bring shame to the name of Christ. It is better for you not to even say anything at all about God at all, because people then use that as a reason to keep from turning to Him.

We have to be taught to do right.
We have to be revived.
We have to have a firm foundation.
We have to trust God.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct[ ] your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

We have to trust God with every area of our lives, without trying to pigeon hole Him into our small way of thinking. Most people have trouble doing this, because sometimes it requires us to just sit and be still, even though everything around us is falling apart and coming unglued at the seams.

We normally can't just sit still because we feel as though everything is out of control and that we should be doing something to make it better. We come up with what we think is bible verses, to justify ourselves for taking control of situations when they might come out better if we just let go and let God do His work.

Have you ever heard of the bible verse that says, “God helps those that help themselves” ?

Well, guess what ?

That isn't even a bible verse, you won't find it anywhere in the bible, there is not one place in the bible that says “God helps those that help themselves”. You can look all you want and you will never find it.

You will find that God helps those who trust in Him, and not in themselves.

And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You. Psalms 9:10

A lot of people claim to know God, but they don't trust Him as God, because they can't trust themselves, and they think God is like them, because that is who they've made Him into in their worldly way of thinking.

O my God, I trust in You; Let me not be ashamed; Let not my enemies triumph over me. Psalms 25:2

If we trust in God he will deliver us from anything that tries to keep us defeated by the world. God can give you victory over every situation, if you will only trust in Him.

Let him not trust in futile things, deceiving himself, For futility will be his reward. Job 15:31

If we place our trust in things that have no real substance or benefit, we will get nothing in return for our efforts. It's a very simple law.

Do not trust in a friend; Do not put your confidence in a companion; Guard the doors of your mouth From her who lies in your bosom. Micah 7:5

Sometimes we turn to a friend for advice, instead of God. God created everything with a word, He has the answers to all of our problems and provides every victory and escape from the things that cause us to fear or dread.

Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, II Cor.1:9

Doesn't it make sense, that we should trust in someone who has the ability to raise everyone He wants to raise from the death ? He promises eternal life after we have run the course of this life because of the shedding of His blood on the cross. He rose from the dead, so I think that He would be all I needed.

It isn't easy to trust. Most of us don't trust anyone around us to a point, we are afraid that once we turn our backs to them, they will take advantage of us or a situation. People want to trust, but they can't, they have to be in complete control, if they aren't, they feel exposed and weak.

What a lot of pressure to live with, I did it for years and it really smelled up my life. All I wanted was to be happy, yet all I was is miserable.

I had to let go, I needed to make a change that would have a positive outcome in my life.

You can't always go through life with a cloud over your head that is constantly raining on your parade.

I had to learn to do what was right.
I had to have a revival in my own life.
I needed a firm foundation.
And most of all, I needed to learn how to trust God in my life.
